Pretty Epic

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

BAM

That happened.

I just beat Skyward Sword tonight and I am HAPPY to say the least.  Its a great feeling to have to complete something from beginning to end.  I think that is one of the reasons why I decided to do this blog is to help bring back that sense of accomplishment in completing things.  I like it a lot.

The total time for completion was ~44 hours.  I was unable to get an accurate time because it does not show it once the credits roll.

Thus, if we take this time played with Parasite Eve (sorry that I don't have AC:B, AC:B DLC, or Infamous.  I can't find those play times), our total time comes to:

55:23:28 hours.

This works out to be:

2 Days, 7 Hours, 23 Minutes, and 28 Seconds

That is not that bad when you think about it.

So how was Skyward Sword you might be asking.

I greatly enjoyed it.  I think that it is an amazing prequel for an epic series.  The storyline was a little slow in the beginning, however once you got going and you got all of the iconic equipment that go along with a proper Zelda game, its balls to the wall FUN.

I do think that the final boss was not as challenging as ones that I have played in the past, but maybe it is because I have gotten better at playing games.  This however should not drop the value of the game in my opinion.  Anyone who plays Zelda games needs to play this one, at least to get an idea for how it all began.

I would like to also add that while I am writing this I am jamming out to the soundtrack that happened to come with the game itself.  Didn't notice it till now.

Nice little bonus.

Play on symphony.

Play on.

To the next game......

The End is Nigh

I believe that I have about 4 hours tops left in Zelda and I will finally beat the game.

EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!

After looking online and quickly seeing what is left I am pretty sure that it will all end tomorrow night.  So mark your calendars and and make sure to stay tuned.

I have been so focused on what is going on in the game that I might be disappointed in the ending only because it is going to end.  I have taken a look at the official Zelda timeline and it makes me want to play/replay all of the Zelda games (I would have to use an emulator for a lot of them I feel).  However I can't do that cause I already have a ridiculous amount of games on my list already.

Maybe I will put that as an addendum to the list when I get through things.

HAHA  yeah right

Said Official Timeline

MASTER SWORD!!!!!

I am just going to state this in the beginning

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!

I finally got my favorite sword of all time.

THE MASTER SWORD!!!

I just love the damn thing.  I also had a feeling the entire time that I was going to be slowly making the Master Sword as the game went on.  And now that I have it, I AM EXCITED!!!

I don't know what I love it so much, but I think its because I don't consider it a Zelda game until that bitch is unleashed.

Top this all off with the time travelling element (common with Zelda games since the different dimension traveling of Link to the Past) and this bitch has gotten GOOOOOD.

The sudden realization of what/who Zelda is has also brightened things.  Can I say that I am surprised??

No.

But knowing where this game falls in terms of the Zelda timeline it helps make a lot of sense now.

I love back stories to games and when legends and prophecies occur.  I don't know why but it makes me as giddy as a school girl.  Its exciting.  Its probably the history lover in me, but learning this stuff is like uncovering some deep dark secret that has been kept for forever.  Or better yet, a new myth that you are reading that totally captivates you and pulls you in.

Oh yeah.  I am going to like this a lot.

Its time for Link to kick some ass.

Gotta love those earrings

So after my post last night I got myself to put in a good hour on Zelda, and I can easily say I got the feeling once again.

I think what happened was I had not played in awhile and I was starting to lose that lure of the game.  I got over that last night real quick.

Got some items, cruised through a temple, did some fighting.  You know how it be.

SPOILER ALERT!!

I finally got these nifty little earrings that allow one to go into the center of the volcano.  It reminds me of the Varia Suit from Super Metroid, or the different tunics you can get from Link to the Past.

I am glad though that I am fighting monsters that are not electric anymore, cause hitting them and being stunned all the time freaking blows.  I kept getting screwed over like that and before I knew it I had just 3 hearts left.  I am down with the fire bats and their fire brethren.

Something that is interesting to Skyward Sword is how you can select which items to bring with you at a time.  The previous Zelda titles that I have played have always allowed you to carry everything of yours at once, with only your sword, shield, bombs, tunic, boomerang (best weapon EVER!!) to upgrade.

Skyward however limits the items that you can bring with you, and almost everything of yours can be upgraded to some extent.  It can be a bitch however it awakens the RPG player inside me.  I LOVE IT.  I am a little crazy cause I love upgrading things.  I check my app store all the time to look for updates.  I like to take things apart and repair them or making them better.  I guess its the inner man in me.

So when you present this option in Zelda, you know I am THERE.

There is not much of a challenge in collecting the items needed to upgrade things.  I mean its as easy as just driving a mile down the road to the Home Depot to purchase things (BAM).  Its definitely a lot easier than FFXI, but that is a different story.

Back to what you can carry or not, I find myself in a predicament.  I am having to carry water back and forth from a waterfall, and I only have 3 bottles, which only one of is empty.  I won't empty the other two cause they have fairies in them and that shit saves your life.  So I am running back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.  Need to find that fourth bottle.  Yet then I have to rearrange what I can bring with me, and that will just piss me the hell off.

Decisions decisions.

SPOILER ALERT OVER!!

Losing that feeling

I am getting that feeling again.

Can't get the drive to keep playing Zelda.

DAMNIT.

I gotta beat it.  I was doing pretty damn good at the storyline and I need to beat it.  Its a milestone for me in terms of this blog, being a game that I completed while the blog was going on.

I just don't know why I am having problems.  I will admit, I order FFXIII-2 yesterday and I can't wait to play that.  I won't allow myself to start it until I beat Zelda.  I have to get through this damn thing.

I gotta force myself to keep going however I don't feel as if it should be like that.  One must enjoy the story and the experience of the game.  One must not force themselves to get through things just for the sake of it.

Who knows, I think I am slowly getting that urge to keep going.

Wish me luck

How many ways can you kill the hero of time??

Zelda.  She is a good girl.  I mean, she is a princess and is always in need of rescuing, so you would think that she should be nice, right?  Cause you would not think someone would want to rescue a total bitch.

"I don't give a damn Link, you should have gone through time and killed thousands of monsters quicker to get to me.  Who knows what soaps I have missed".

Someone like that does not deserve to be rescued.  At all.  I say if someone is going to be like a New Jersey housewife then they are better off being stuck by the super villain.  Cause you will never ever do anything right by her book.  (If you happen to be one of those feminists out there, then his book).

So what does this have to do with death?  Well, Link dies a lot if you screw up.  Any character dies a lot if you screw up.

Its just interesting how often it occurs.  I remember from my days of playing Tony Hawk I heard that the developers recorded droping a mannequin over a hundred times to get a realistic human crashing.  So the idea of a character falling or dying in a game plays a huge part of any story.

So far in Zelda I have only died once, however how many times my character has fallen into the sky or the sandpit or the lava, well, its insane.  I might have issues.  But there is nothing that you can prove.

I come to the subject of character death though because it is usually the reason why I stop playing.  I end up dying after stupidly not saving for awhile.  Then I lose that drive to go back and get everything that I accomplished so I go do something else.  BLAH to that.

Back to the original thought, why save someone who is a complete bitch about the situation?

Cause some crazy asian guy developed you to do it.

Damn

Zelda: The adventure continues

So I have made it to the wonderful part of Zelda games in which you get the three main temples done, find their treasures, head back to the starting point only to find out you have to find more treasures.  Its a dynamic that I have found in Zelda games since at least A Link to the Past.

I actually enjoy how they have it set up in the games.  I can see how some could be a little annoyed at this knowing that you are going to have to keep adventuring, yet I have always enjoyed the second sets of temples. I find them to be sometimes a little darker and the rewards cooler.

Spoiler Alert!!!

Like in Skyward Sword, after completing the first flame I find myself with a longer sword.  Maybe that flame had the magical Viagra in it who knows.   The main thing is I get a whip which makes finding things a lot interesting, plus I got that dragon scale (see earlier post about swimming in Zelda).

I did find out just now that when you do a dowse with one thing and try to take on another quest it seems to overwrite you previous dowse.  Kind of sucked cause I was looking for the 2nd flame and I look at doing a quest for Fun Fun Island and find myself not having the earlier dowse.  Back to the Isle of Songs I have to go, but is this a reason for me to stop playing??????

Short answer: No

I do find myself resting though cause my arm gets quite tired from all the damn swinging and cutting.  I got them mad sword skills.

List Update

I updated The List page today.  I added numbers to the side to give a firm number.

I also added the following games to the list:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Wii
Assassin's Creed: Revelations PS3
Assassin's Creed PS3

I learned how to swim (Spoiler Alert!!)

Let me tell you something.

My damn shoulder is killing me.  Even though I be chopping things left and right in Zelda, it has taken its toll.

Since I got back from my honeymoon on Sunday, I have been playing Zelda every night trying to make some progress.  Don't get me wrong.  I love it.

Let me rephrase that.  I LOVE IT.  To me there is nothing like a good Zelda story to warm the cackles of a gamer's heart.  Its a classic.  Yes it might be a retold story over and over again, yet Nintendo has a way of coming up with ways to make it exciting.  However I got FFXI working on my old beat up PC and I want to start fiddling with that some.  I also got AC:Revelations too.  Sooooo I need to get to work on my lists.  You might be thinking "what about FFV dumbass???"  Don't worry, I have not forgotten about it.  I have been slowly working on that game as well.  There will be updates soon.  I swear

SPOILER!!!!!

I just got through the first 3 dungeons and I am now working on making the Goddess Sword better.  I just ran around in some spiritual plane (which I will give a tip of my hat to Nintendo.  I liked this aspect of running around without weapons and dodging things.  Luckily I did not have to bust out my mad Metal Gear Solid skills to get past it) to gather orbs.

Now I have one of the best and most important items in any Zelda game besides the Boomerang (if you want to debate on whether the bomb is more important I will have a post about that).

I have the Dragon Scale which allows me to swim under water.  YAY!!!!!!!!!

Its just swimming right?  No.  Its more than that.  You start off only barely crossing substances that have a liquid consistency.  Can't dive, can't even swim that fast.  Just mosey dog paddle across a small puddle.  Then you get the Dragon Scale and life is much better. You can swim better.  You can dive underwater and explore.  And that open up so much of the new world as well as the parts that you have already explored.

Now that I think about it, that means that I have to go back and re-explore those areas???

FUUUCK   I can't deal with that.   FFXI is looking a little better now.

The Sword is back

Hey all.  Sorry about my little hiatus that I took.  I have been slammed at work and I had what the insurance companies call a "Life Changing Event".

I got married.

YAY!!!!!

Now in no way am I saying that because I got married I have not been able to play games.  First, I got married on the 11th, and if you understand the Gregorian Calendar and can understand basic math you would realize that I have been away since before then.

Second, my wonderful wife did research on two games that I had as possibility to buy from a list I had made.  She did it without my asking, understanding that she married a dork.  That's one of the reasons why I love her.

Aside from the mushy stuff, she found from asking people that Zelda: Skyward Sword (Zelda) would be the best option between that and Assassins Creed: Revelations.  I had been interested in Zelda because it was a Zelda game.  Being someone who grew up with the green tunic wearing, sword wielding hero, I knew I had to try it.

I am about 2.5 hours tops into the game.  I spent a lot of time getting used to the flying and the fact that I did not pay attention to the tutorial in which you have to flap your arms like a goober to gain altitude.  My wife sitting behind me laughing her ass off with her drink almost shooting out her nose as I "fly" around the living room.  Word of advice: Have enough room to wheel about like a moron.

The sword fighting is fun.  It move with the 8 points of a compass.  Its no 1:1 ratio but its still really damn fun.  I will admit though that when lots of monsters attack me I tend to just fling my arm around like a moron and yell "DIE DIE DIE".

I think the game has a lot of potential, and the story is rather fun.  I was going to write about where I feel this game falls in the timeline, however I will hold off on that till I get back from my honeymoon and I have some more time to play the game more.
